A large audience braved wet and windy weather on Tuesday 3 April to attend a concert in St Peter’s Church, Bandon in aid of the Cork Simon Community. The concert featured two choirs – Glaslinn Ladies’ Choir from Bandon and a visiting choir from the United States, the Minnetonka High School Choir.

The Glaslinn Ladies’ Choir (conducted by Antoinette Baker and accompanied by Ruth O Shea) performed a selection from their repertoire, including pieces by John Rutter, Mendelssohn and Billy Joel which were all greatly enjoyed.

The Minnetonka High School Choir (conducted by Paula Holmberg) whose ages ranged from fifteen to nineteen charmed the audience with their renditions of classical, spiritual, folk and barber shop pieces and even some Irish melodies sung beautifully as Gaeilge.

Sarah Graham from Cork Simon gave a thought provoking speech describing the important work done by this voluntary organisation.

The audience contributed most generously at the end of the evening and over €850 was raised.
